Dr. Theodore Brisson
Dr. Brisson received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999 and received his Medical Degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in 2003. He completed his residency training in Urology at the Mayo Clinic at Jacksonville, Florida, and was board certified by the American Board of Urology in 2010.
Dr. Brisson is one of the most experienced robotic surgeons in South Carolina. He uses the robot to perform a variety of cancer surgeries including radical prostatectomies, partial nephrectomies, radical nephrectomies and radical cystectomies. He currently performs more than 150 robotic procedures per year, and has performed over 1800 robotic surgeries during his career. In addition to performing oncological procedures with the robot, Dr. Brisson was the first physician in South Carolina to perform a sacrocolpopexy (repair of vaginal vault prolapse) using the da Vinci® robot. He now works with multiple gynecologist in Charleston to surgically correct pelvic prolapse both at the time of hysterectomy or after hysterectomy depending on the time of presentation.
His professional interests include female incontinence and prolapse (specifically robotic sacrocolpopexies), stone disease, and the application of robotic surgery to urological oncology. He has multiple presentations at national meetings and has published articles in several medical journals including Urology, Journal of Urology, and Issues in Urology.
He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, the Southeastern Urological Association, and the American Urological Association.
