Dr. Juan Frontera
Graduated with honors in 1985 from the UPR School of Medicine. Did three years of General Surgery at Hahnnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia and finished residency in Urology at Wayne State University in Detroit in 1991. Joined the academic faculty as Assistant Professor of Urology at WSU from 1991-1997 after which I left for private practice in Orlando, Florida and returned to Michigan in 2001 to join the Michigan Institute of Urology.
During my tenure at WSU I was Chief of Urology at Detroit Receiving Hospital where I was director of urologic trauma and reconstruction. I also initiated the Laparoscopic and Minimally Invasive Surgery program at the department.
My current areas of interest include the application of robotics, laparoscopy, and minimally invasive surgery in the management of urologic cancer, complex stone disease, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and upper urinary tract reconstruction.
