Dr. Chandan Kundavaram
Dr. Chandan Kundavaram is excited to return to the Valley to provide comprehensive urologic care to the community. He recently completed advanced fellowship training in minimally invasive urologic surgery including endoscopy, laparoscopy, and robotic surgery to treat both benign and malignant urologic conditions at the renowned University of Southern California Institute of Urology and the UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Kundavaram believes there is substantial wisdom in understanding patients as a whole. This includes listening to and engaging patients in conversation to understand the implications of their condition. After clearly explaining the benefits and negatives of various therapeutic options and providing evidence-based clinical recommendations, he hopes to arrive at an individualized treatment plan with his patients and their family. He grew up in Glendale, Arizona and graduated summa cum laude with Honors from the University of Arizona. He went on to obtain a medical degree at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson. During medical school, he served as president of student government, participated in programs providing care for underserved patients, and was presented with the humanism award by his classmates. Subsequently, he completed general surgery and urologic surgery training at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia – one of the oldest and most well-respected urologic training programs in the country. Thereafter, he completed fellowship training in advanced laparoscopy and robotic surgery at UCLA as well as the USC Institute of Urology where he trained with world leaders in the field of minimally invasive urologic surgery. He has been involved in hundreds of surgeries treating both benign and malignant conditions of the kidney, testis, prostate, adrenal gland, and bladder. He took particular interest in nerve-preserving prostatectomy techniques to treat prostate cancer in order to maintain continence and preserve sexual potency as well as nephron sparing surgery (partial nephrectomy) for kidney cancer to prevent the need for dialysis. Additionally, he is well versed in the treatment and prevention of kidney stones, BPH/prostate enlargement, urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, and male sexual medicine. Additionally, he has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed papers and book chapters and has presented at both local and national meetings. He continues to strive to keep up with the latest literature and technologies to improve care for his patients. Dr. Kundavaram is committed to providing the highest quality comprehensive urologic care to his patients, utilizing the most recent medical and surgical advances and doing so with compassion. In his spare time, he enjoys cheering on the Arizona Wildcats, being physically active, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

All surgical treatments have inherent and associated side effects. Individual’s outcomes may depend on a number of factors, including but not limited to patient characteristics, disease characteristics and/or surgeon experience. The most common side effects are mild and transient and may include mild pain or difficulty when urinating, discomfort in the pelvis, blood in the urine, inability to empty the bladder or a frequent and/or urgent need to urinate, and bladder or urinary tract infection. Other risks include ejaculatory dysfunction and a low risk of injury to the urethra or rectum where the devices gain access to the body for treatment. Further, there may be other risks as in other urological surgery, such as anesthesia risk or the risk of infection, including the potential transmission of blood borne pathogens. For more information about potential side effects and risks associated with Aquablation therapy for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) treatment, speak with your urologist or surgeon.
